Finally! A Politician Who Tells the Truth

As the old joke goes, you can always tell if a politician is lying -- when his lips are moving.

This really isn't the case for our newest commander-in-chief. He seems to be a stand-up guy who will always tell the truth. In the most recent example, President Obama spoke to the nation in a prime-time press conference.

The example I would like to show you is the sentence President Obama says at the 5:30 mark in this video.

In case you didn't catch it, Obama said,
"I know that there are a lot of folks out there who've been saying, 'Oh, this is pork, and this is money that's going to be wasted,' and et cetera, et cetera. Understand, this bill does not have a single earmark in it, which is unprecedented for a bill of this size."
A lot of conservative blogs have been decrying this as an outright lie. I disagree, however.

I think Obama chose his words very carefully. He is correct that there is not "a single earmark" in the stimulus bill because the fact is that bill is full of earmarks.

Perhaps he could have been more accurate to say "this bill does not have a single earmark in it. On the contrary there is a plurality of earmarks in this pork-laden spending bill."

But is it really telling the truth when you choose your words in order to deceive your audience? Mr. Obama, that's not leadership, that's not transparency and that's certainly not honesty.

It seems Obama is just a craftier liar than the rest of them. And that's saying something.

Is that the change we can believe in?
