“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,” Gov. Perry said.
Similar resolutions have been proposed in 20 other states. But Gov. Perry is the first governor to come out in support of a sovereignty resolution, which may be an indication that he understands the independent and predominately federalist nature of Texans.
Texas has consistently been a leader among the 50 states in support of conservative ideals. (Texas has no personal income tax because the Texas constitution specifically prohibits it!) Texans in addition to Rick Perry are leading the way yet again by organizing more tea parties than any other state.
Perry is one of the governors who refuses portions of the stimulus money, but the federal government has threatened legislation that would force the states to take stimulus dollars.
"Millions of Texans are tired of Washington, D.C. trying to come down here to tell us how to run Texas," Rick Perry said.
Perry faces a tough gubernatorial race against Sen. Kay Baily Hutchinson next year.
Express your outrage at the oppressive federal government and attend a tea party tomorrow in your area!
