Feb. 10 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama said he doesn’t “begrudge” the $17 million bonus awarded to Chief Executive Officer Jamie Dimon or the $9 million issued to Goldman Sachs Group Inc. CEO Lloyd Blankfein, noting that some athletes take home more pay.
So what caused this sudden change of heart? The third paragraph might provide the answer:
“I know both those guys; they are very savvy businessmen,” Obama said in the interview yesterday in the Oval Office with Bloomberg BusinessWeek, which will appear on newsstands Friday. “I, like most of the American people, don’t begrudge people success or wealth. That is part of the free-market system.”
As for most of the American people sharing Obama's new-found love of bank bonuses, he should check the ranks of his own party. Just a cursory listening of NPR on any given day will show you that the lefties out there do begrudge these types of bonuses.
But these guys are cool; Obama knows these guys. The question is this: How well does he know these guys? Does he know them "campaign contribution" well? Hmmm? He knows them could've-served-in-the-cabinet well, which is worth quite a bit these days.
